Kathleen MacIntosh (Kay) Robertson (Cumming)
INTERNMENT
Kay will be interned at Little Harbour Presbyterian Church at 4:00 PM on Friday, August 5th. Kay passed away peacefully in Halifax on March 10th, but she wanted to be buried beside her husband, Al, at Little Harbour. Kay was born in 1918 in New Glasgow, N.S. She was the daughter of the late James and Jean (Burns) Cumming and granddaughter of the late J. W. Cumming, the founder of Maritime Steel Ltd. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, predeceased by sisters Margaret Condon and Shirley Nolan, and by brothers William and Graham. Kay grew up in New Glasgow, attended Trinity United Church, and was involved in many youth groups. She attended Mt. Allison University Ladies College where she greatly enjoyed the home economics classes and a very busy social life. She was married in 1940 to Alvin (Al) Robertson for 61 years. They lived in Gaspe, Que. and Sydney N.S. during his naval career before settling in Halifax in 1942. While they lived in Halifax, every summer was spent at Kay’s “favourite place in the world”, Melmerby Beach.
Kay was one of those rare, gentle souls who never had a negative word about anyone. Her sunny disposition endeared her to all. She is survived by sons Allan (Stephanie), Halifax and Glen (Marilyn), Mission, B.C., by daughter Jean White, Halifax, by grandchildren, Rebecca, Christopher, and Stephen Robertson, Catherine Kozera, Cynthia Callahan, and Meagan, Kate and Adam Robertson, plus twelve great grandchildren. After the internment service, there will be a reception at Kay and Al’s cottage at Melmerby Beach (117 Ceilidh Brae). We hope to see you there.
