PICTOU - Helmut Stoll, 79, of Elliott St., Pictou, passed away September 27, 2009 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Germany, he was a son of the late Hans Schmitt and Katarina (Kindeldacher) Stoll.
He moved to Canada in 1956, settling in Montreal, and later moving to Nova Scotia. His work as an electrical engineer took him to the States for 17 years, before retiring to Pictou in 1997 to be closer to his family.
Helmut was an avid hunter and lover of the outdoors. A musician as well, he was a wonderful accordion player. A man of many trades he was renowned for his ability to fix things and enjoyed working in his yard. Sunday drives were a favourite activity and you could be sure he would drop in for a visit.
Surviving are his wife, Ernetrude “Trude” (Hihn); his children: Hartmut (Faith), Yarmouth; Jürgen (Krista), West Branch; Helga (Larry) Sinclair, Pictou; Irene (Kenneth) Teffer, Pictou; grandchildren: Thomas, Michael, Crystal, Melissa, Angela, Nicolas, Jason, Jeffrey; great-grandchildren: Christian, Angelina, Malik, and Tristan; brother, Gustav (Leza), Germany.
Helmut was predeceased by his step-father, Gustav Stoll.
Cremation has taken place. A private family funeral will be held. The family will receive visitors from 2-5 p.m. Saturday at the Stoll residence, 30 Elliott Street, Pictou.
No flowers by request. Donations in his memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
The family wish to sincerely thank all the doctors and nurses involved with Dad’s care, especially, Dr. Farrell, Dr. Burton, Dr. Burrill, and Dr. MacCara, with a special thank you to everyone at the Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit.
