PORTER, Ellen Maye - formerly of Delhaven, Kings County, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Parrsboro on January 31, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Captain Carl George and Beryl (Dow) George. Ellen will be dearly missed by her daughter, Carol Morton (Dave), Habitant; three sons, Greg (Sonya), Canning; David, Toronto and Steve (Tammie), Calgary; her only surviving sister, Cecilia George Macdonald (Vince); sister-in-law, Verna George, Digby; several nieces and nephews. She was a dear and loving grandmother to Carson, Claire, Josh, Trenton and Lexi. Ellen was a member of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church and Catholic Council in Canning for many years. She was also an active member of the TOPS group in New Minas and Canning. She will be remembered for her courage and commitment to her family and friends. Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Grant, as well as her daughter, Susan. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Lorway (Mike), Maurice (Tyke), and Paul George. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. There was no visitation, by family request. A memorial mass took place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, Father Michael Walsh officiating. A reception followed in St. Joseph’s Parish Hall. Burial took place in the Pereau Cemetery, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the charity of your choice.
