SMITH, HELEN FREDERICA (BOONE) - Helen Smith of French Lake, NB, passed away on August 1st, 2011 surrounded by her family at Orchard View Long Term Home in Gagetown, NB. She was born on April 22nd, 1918 at Lauvina (Geary) NB. She is survived by her daughter Shirley Caseley (Vincent); son, Ken Smith (Edna); grand-children, Tammy Caseley; Shelley MacPhee (Joey) and Jonathan Smith (Erin); great-grandchildren, Chloe, Liam, and Jalyn MacPhee; sister, Elaine Shanks; brother, Donald Boone (Grace); several nieces and nephews and Susie her cat. In addition to her husband, Bennie Smith, she was predeceased by grand-daughter, Heather Smith, parents, Frederick and Frances (Howe) Boone; brother and sister-in-law, Rupert and Lena Boone; brother-in-law Sammy Shanks. Helen was a member of the French Lake Baptist Church where she sang alto in the church choir and served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Sunday School and long time Treasurer of the church. She was a Dominion Life Member of the Women's Missionary Society, a member of the Seniors Group, and LOBA Orange Lily Lodge. Helen was also a member of the French Lake Chapter of the Women's Institute and played an active part by holding various offices over the years. She was employed for nineteen years with the Queen's Printer at Base Gagetown. She was well known for her interest in quilting and knitting and other crafts and over the years made numerous quilts for her family and friends (especially the grandchildren) and quilted many tops for others. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was the happiest when they were all close at hand. She loved having her grand-children and great grand-children come to visit.
The family will receive visitors at the French Lake Baptist Church on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral will take place at the French Lake Baptist Church on Thursday, August 4th, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Paul Thompson, Rev. Greg Sparkes, and Pastor Larry Matthews officiating. Interment will take place in the Morrow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes made to the Geary, French Lake, Waterville Cemetery Committee or to the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
