Margaret (Peggy) MacKinnon
MacKINNON, MARGARET (PEGGY) - Margaret Wiley MacKinnon (Peggy) passed away August 1, 2011, at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital, after a brief illness. Predeceased by her parents Dr. Hector Hugh MacKinnon and Margaret Anne Morrison MacKinnon, Peggy is survived by her two daughters Veronica and Virginia Good, both of Toronto; four siblings Jane Lemon, Hugh MacKinnon (Mary Ferris), Barbara MacKinnon (Michael Burt) and Ian MacKinnon; and many cousins and their families. Peggy graduated from Fredericton High School in 1965 and went on to receive a B.A. and a B.Ed. at the University of New Brunswick which led to a life-long career in teaching at schools in Fredericton Junction and Oromocto. She was a talented musician who in her early years scored high marks for piano at music festivals. In high school she enjoyed performing in musical productions and later sang with Fredericton’s Gilbert and Sullivan Society. Peggy loved poetry, both reading it and writing it. She recently compiled a volume of poetry she had written during her lifetime. Most of all Peggy had a gift for friendship. Kind, loyal and with a wonderful sense of humour, it was not surprising that the pals she made in grade one were still close friends in later life. She was the first to laugh at her own mistakes while always highlighting the strengths and virtues of others. She will be greatly missed by both family and friends.
Visitation will be at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York Street on Friday, August 5th, 2011 from 5 to 7 pm. A memorial service will take place at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Saturday, August 6th, 2011 2:00 pm. For those who wish, memorial tributes made to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
