Dr. Li-Kuang Shu, or LK, as he was known to his friends and colleagues, passed away suddenly on May 12th, 2011.
Born in Malaysia in 1955, he studied chemical engineering at Singapore’s National Technical University, earning a bachelor of science in 1979. After some time in the in the work force, he began graduate studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he eventually earned a PhD degree in 1992. He returned to Malaysia, and four years later, immigrated to Canada.
Dr. Shu lived in Toronto and Winnipeg before settling in Sydney, where he found a rewarding career as a research scientist, as well as a welcoming community. Dr. Shu enjoyed working at Advanced Glazings as a research chemist, and while not at work Dr. Shu would visit the McConnell and CBU libraries to read and reflect. Dr. Shu was a private man, who appreciated the simpler things of life. His friends and colleagues were saddened by his sudden passing, and will miss his professionalism, enthusiasm, and ever-present smile.
A memorial service has taken place at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home.
