It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Babe MacDonald, age 88, on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 at the Northside General Hospital.
Mom was born on January 7, 1921, the daughter of the late John C. and Catherine (Smith) Bagg. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or. She was a member of the Georges River Home and School for several years and served as treasurer for many of those years. Family get togethers, barbeques and time spent at the lake were the most important things in mom’s life. She had many talents including baking, painting and knitting. She enjoyed her weekly 45 card games at Southside Boularderie Fire Hall and weekly Rumoli games with the girls.
She is survived by her nine children Marie, St. Margaret’s Bay, David, Alder Point, Delia (Michael MacIntyre), Southside Boularderie, Joe (Anna), Scotch Lake, Anne (Sandy Conway), North Sydney, Michael (Anne), Vincent (Debbie), both of Scotch Lake, Barry (Cheryl), Ingonish, Cathy (Art Ivey), Scotch Lake, her 29 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, John Hugh MacDonald; sisters, Mary and Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Murphy; brother, Jackie; granddaughter, Christene MacDonald; daughter-in-law, Sandra (Iannetti) MacDonald and good friend, Margie MacDonald.
Visitation for Babe will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Thursday) in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery, Bras d’Or.
Due to health concerns the family request no flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
