E. Margery (nee Cuming) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at home at the age of 101. She is survived by her loving husband, Orval; son, Jim (Joan) Braaten of Abbey, SK; daughter, Marval (Russ) Jackson of Eston, SK; grandsons, Wade (Lori) Braaten, Warren (Candace) Braaten and Ryan (Lindsay) Jackson; and 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Harvey and Harold; and a grandson, Sean Jackson. Marge was born April 5, 1908, in Whitewood, SK. She took her schooling in Whitewood and Moosomin. She attended Normal School in Regina, taught in Keddleston and Instow before coming to Abbey to teach. She married Orval in 1941. She was actively involved in all aspects of the United Church, including being the organist for over 20 years. She was also involved with the Rebekah Lodge, school board, curling, bridge and Kensington clubs. Marge loved all sports, both as a participant and spectator. Marge and Orval enjoyed gardening, traveling and their cottage at Clearwater Lake. They moved to Saskatoon in 1967, after which Marge became very involved with a bowling club, her bridge club and Sons of Norway. A graveside service was held Saturday, October 3, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at the Abbey Community Cemetery with Reverend Catherine Christie officiating. Lunch followed in the St. Abbey United Church basement. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Abbey Community Cemetery, c/o Roberta Schafer, Box 171, Abbey, SK, S0N 0A0 Arrangements are entrusted to Kenneth Scheirich, Hillcrest Funeral Home 477-4400.
