Formerly of Charlottetown, P.E.I., passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2009, at The Mira Care Centre, Truro, N.S., at the age of 91.
Fran was born on June 18, 1918, in Glasgow, Scotland. She was the only daughter of the late Rachel and William Cameron. After emigrating from Scotland as a teenager, she lived in various Canadian cities before moving to Charlottetown where she resided for many years. She considered Charlottetown to be "home".
She was a volunteer at the Provincial Sanatorium where she worked with MS patients for many years. She was also a dedicated member of several church organizations at St. James Presbyterian Church (the Kirk) as well as an active member of IODE.
Fran was predeceased by her husband, John A. (Sandy) Lawson.
She is survived by: daughter, Kit (Barry) Diamond, Truro, N.S.; grandchildren, Jeff (Jenny) Diamond, Seattle, WA; and Dr. Carolyn Diamond (Mike Strople), Oakville, Ont.; and three great-grandchildren; daughter, Carol (Ken) Elder, Ottawa, Ont., grandchildren Eric Elder, Denver, CO; and Ingrid (Jason) Popesku, Vancouver, B.C.; son, Gordon (Joan) Lawson, Kitchener, Ont.; grandchildren, Scott and Mark Lawson, Trish Garland, Waterloo, Ont.; step grandsons, Colin (Pilar) Lafferty, Whitby, Ont.; and Craig Lafferty, Kitchener, Ont.; half-brother, Ian (Isabel) Cameron, Paisley, Scotland.
Visitation with family will be held in Cutcliffe Funeral Home, Charlottetown, on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, from 1 p.m. until funeral service at 2 p.m., reception to follow.
Burial will take place in Sherwood Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Fran’s memory to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, or St. James Presbyterian Church, Charlottetown.
