Lynda Louise Hicks Vogel was a mother, daughter, sister, wife and friend to many. Born in Kamloops, she grew up at 111 Clarke Street alongside her brother Dan, sister Laura Leigh and many family pets. She loved music, dancing, skiing and skating. Summers were enjoyed with family and friends at the Shuswap Lake cabin and winters were filled with downhill and cross country skiing, and pond skating. Her active lifestyle and love of the outdoors continued with Outdoor Education at Capilano College and Outward Bound adventures. Subsequently she did her nursing degree at UBC, and a correspondence Masters program in Family Counselling while living in France. She married Lee Vogel and had three children: Jyelle and Hunter, born in Vancouver, and Solenn, born in France. Upon returning to Kamloops in 1996, Lynda began counselling with South Kamloops Health District. Her career lead her through a second masters degree in Nursing through UBC.

Lynda's marriage to Steve Hamilton took her to teaching in Nanaimo at Malaspina College (Vancouver Island University). Solenn, Steve and Lynda lived together in Nanaimo for the past five years. When she was first diagnosed with cancer in May 2008, she began her cancer battle with the utmost determination and bravery. Family and friends have gathered around her over the past three years in increasing flocks as Lynda reached out for help through her physical and spiritual struggles. Her integrity and fortitude kept us in awe of her as the illness progressed and made clearer to us her passions: for her children, her friends, and animals, her home, and for the beauty of nature.

Lynda is survived by her husband Steve Hamilton, her children Jyelle, Hunter and Solenn Vogel, her parents Donald and Elizabeth (Bette) Hicks, her older siblings Daniel Hicks and Laura Leigh Madsen, Laura's husband Dr. Michael Madsen and their daughter Keira.

A Celebration of Lynda's Life will take place at Kamloops United Church (4th & St. Paul) at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13th.

In lieu of flowers, the family are suggesting donations to places of Lynda's passion: the Kamloops Art Council (250-372-7323) and the Kamloops S.P.C.A. (250-376-7722).
