PETERS, Irene – Dartmouth, passed away Monday, November 17, 2008, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born December 15, 1922, in St. John’s, NL, she was the daughter of the late Jethro and Drucilla (Bursey) Cooper. Irene was educated at Prince of Wales College and Memorial University. She went on to teach school in rural Newfoundland and St. John’s. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and Grace United Church, Dartmouth. She is survived by her loving husband, John Peters; goddaughter Susanne Egar, Ottawa, Ont., godsons Christopher Scott, Brampton, Ont., and Eric MacKnight (Giselle), Minneapolis, Minn; sister-in-law Marion Scott, Stouffville, Ont.; brothers-in-law: Dr. David Peters, St. John’s, NL, and Dr. James Peters, Goderick, Ont. She was predeceased by brothers, Gordon Cooper and Lloyd King; and sister Margaret Scott. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held at Grace United Church, Dartmouth, on November 21st, 2008. The committal and interment service will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, on Monday, December 1st, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. followed by a reception at 10 Winter Place, St. John’s. Donations in memory of Irene may be made to a charity of choice.
