Allan Simmons, 80, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Allan was predeceased by his wonderful wife, Belle Simmons. Belle’s birthday was on Aug 9, so it is with bitter sweetness the children have parted with their loving father and their mother has received the most precious birthday gift of all, her husband.
Allie resided at 370 Upper North St., along with his daughter, Michele and granddaughter, Courtney Simmons.
Allie was a fisherman in his younger years and still loved to go on the ocean to fish with his friends. He was employed at Devco Central Shops from which he retired. Allie also served in the military and was a member of The North Street Community and Recreation Centre where he enjoyed spending time with special friends.
He is survived by children, Donna (Tracy), Allan (Cindy), Roni (Kent), Greg (Kathy), Glenda (Gary) and Michele. Survived by 16 grandchildren, John, Stephen, William, Dan, Jason, James, Charina, Tanya, Greg, Kelly, Brendan, Mandy, Erin, Ryan, Melanie and Courtney and 22 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers, Leo, Leonard and sister, Dianne.
Allie was predeceased by parents, Tom and Eileen; brothers, Roy and George and sister, Sheila.
Visitation will be today (Thursday, Aug.11, 2011) from 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
