GRACE HOWSE

GRACE HOWSE

Date de décès : 6 août 2011

Grace Howse of Moose Jaw passed away at Extendicare on August 6, 2011. Our Aunt Grace will be missed by many and remembered fondly for her warm smile and generous hugs! She was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Mae Howse, her oldest sister Joyce Foreman and her nephew Ernie Foreman. Grace is survived by her sister Dorothy Penney of Victoria, BC; along with her nephews Michael Penney and Don Foreman, and nieces Sherry Ridout, and Sharon Hughbanks and their families. Grace's extended family in Avonlea and Regina is large and she took great delight in welcoming all the new babies of each generation. As her immediate family lived on the coast and in the United States Grace was "adopted" by the Jack and Dody Ridgway family years ago and spent many Christmases surrounded by their love. We are especially grateful to Darcy Phillips who in the last few years has filled the role of daughter providing loving care and companionship. Grace was born in Avonlea, Saskatchewan and started school in Claybank. The family moved to Moose Jaw when Grace was in her teens and she has lived here ever since. Though Grace never married many children got to experience her love both in her volunteer work with young people in the United Church and later when she worked in the A.B.C. Day Care (located at St.Andrew’s United Church) from 1974 to 1987. After Grace retired from A.B.C. she continued to provide day care in her own home to a number of very well cared for babies. Grace was a member of St. Andrew's United Church for many years, later transferring to Zion. She was very involved with both congregations and enjoyed singing in the choir along with many other ministries. Grace was a passionate member of the New Democratic Party and worked for years on their local election campaigns. Party leader's pictures shared wall space with her family photos. We wish to thank the staff at Ina Grafton and Extendicare for making the last few years of our aunt's life as comfortable as possible. She always spoke highly of you and appreciated your efforts. A celebration of Grace’s life will be held at Zion United Church, 423 Main St. N, Moose Jaw, on Tuesday August 16, 2011 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Doug Hallman will officiate. No flowers please instead consider a donation in Grace's name to P.C.T.C. Calling Lakes Centre, to Zion United Church Mission, Service and Outreach Committee, or to the Extendicare Family Support Group. In living memory of Grace, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
