Mervyn V Weeks, age 84, of Amherst, passed away at the Cumberland Regional Heatlh Care Center on Thursday, October 1, 2009.
Born in Amherst Shore, NS, he was a son of the late Walter and Mae (Bell) Weeks .
Mervyn attended and was active with the Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, singing in the choir, participating in the Men's Group, and as treasurer of the Sunday School. He owned and operated Weeks' Market for over 50 years with his brother Gordon. He was a volunteer with the Red Cross.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Lillian (Rafter); daughter Patricia Weeks, Halifax; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Gordon, Robert and sister Marion Murray.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 68 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place from 7 to 9 pm on Friday. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 2 pm, Rev. Patti Blundell officiating. Burial will follow in the Amherst Cemetery.
