It is with great sadness the family of Geraldine Evelyn Gallant age 88, of Amherst announce her passing on Monday, September 28, 2009 at Dr. George L.
Dumont Hospital, Moncton, NB.
Born in Upper Nappan, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Elsie
(Smith) Nelson.
Geraldine grew up in the Blair Lake and Amherst area and attended the Cumberland County Academy graduating in 1938. She married Francis (Frank) Gallant and together they raised five children. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles and had a passion for the Toronto Blue Jays.
She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Even in her 88th. year Geraldine continued to amaze and be loved by her family for her quick wit and her keen mind. Whenever they did not know the answer to a question or could not recall the date of a past event or someone's birthday or any other piece of information it was, "call Mum , she will know" and sure enough she always came up with the answer to whatever was being asked.
She is survived by two daughters Margaret (LeRoy) Morris of Amherst and Lois
(Doug) Noiles of Upper Nappan, two sons Roger (Elaine) of Calgary and Robert of Amherst, 13 grandchildren, Kevin, Karen, Glenda, Greg, David, Michael, Darren, Jason, Colin, Sean, Daniel, Brett and Matthew, 8 great grandchildren Andrew, Rebecca, MacKenzie, Maddison, Emily, Denzel, Alex and Johnathan, one brother Hugh of Scarborough, ON and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Geraldine was predeceased by her husband Francis (Frank) of 59 years, son Hugh, granddaughter Erin Gallant and great granddaughter Jaclyn Hennessey and one sister Marie Bird.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Campbell's Chapel with Rev. Byron Corkum officiating.
Interment will take place in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery, Amherst.
