Daniel Wilson Hubbard
HUBBARD, DANIEL WILSON - It is with great sadness the family of Daniel Wilson Hubbard, born June 25, 1924 announces his passing at his residence, the War Veterans Center, on Friday, August 12, 2011. Daniel was born June 25, 1924 in Red Bank, NB to Earl and Abigail (Blackmore) Hubbard. He spent his childhood helping around the family farm and developed a lifelong passion for fishing along the Miramichi River. At the age of seventeen, Danny moved to Moncton to apprentice with the Canadian National Railways as a carman with the Moncton shops in 1942. Danny worked in Trenton, NS in the Car Works Department as well as in Saint John, NB in the C.N.R. Regional Office. He worked as a Dangerous Commodities Inspector within the region of Rivière du Loup to NFLD, retiring in 1987. He joined the R.C.A.F. in June of 1943 to 1946 and was stationed in Winnipeg as an L.A.C. It was in Winnipeg Danny met his future bride, Louise Holt. Dan was a member of Acadia Lodge F&M #9 (49) Botsford Chapter #7 (F & AM) and the C.N. Pensioners. After retiring from the C.N., Dan and Louise traveled across Canada, the United States and visited the Caribbean. Danny liked puttering around his home and yard looking for things to fix almost before they were in need of fixing. He was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and was a former member of their Board of Trustees. Due to continuing poor health Dan became a resident at the War Veterans Center in Moncton in September of 2010 where he passed away peacefully. Danny received wonderful care from the staff of the Veterans center and was happy to think of it as home. Daniel will be sadly missed by his wife of 65 years, Louise; and by all of his family and friends. He has one brother, Charles Hubbard (Patricia) Red Bank, NB. One son, Bryan Hubbard (Stephanie), Moncton, NB; and one daughter, Barbara Croft (Richard), Ontario. Six grandchildren, Andrew Hubbard (Tanya) Ontario, Lisa Waugh (Shawn), Moncton, NB, Julie Hubbard, Moncton, Christopher Croft (Elissa), Ontario, Loa Croft, Ontario and Machaela Croft, Ontario. Three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Kieran Waugh, Moncton, NB and Naomi Belle Croft, Ontario. He was Uncle Dan to Calvin, David, Lesley (Jardine) and John Hubbard. Daniel was a devoted father, loving his home, family and close friends. Daniel was a very diligent worker and an honest person with a soft heart. Our circle of family is broken once again and Danny will always be missed. We would like to thank the many friends who visited Danny, for your kindness and prayers and to the doctors, nurses and staff of his residence who took care of him and treated him with such tenderness and dignity.
