SPARKS, EDITH DOROTHY - 1915-2011 - The death of Edith Dorothy Sparks, age 96, of Moncton, occurred at McNair Manor, Moncton on August 13, 2011. Born in Moncton on June 20, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Henry Allen Crandall and the late Arlie Willot West Crandall. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, J. Douglas Sparks and her brother, Major (Ret.) Charles W. Crandall. Edie was a hair stylist and had a salon in her home for many years. She also worked for T. Eaton Company in both the candy and camera departments. Edith was a lifelong member of Highfield Street United Baptist Church and the church’s Young at Heart Club. Music brought great joy to Edie. She loved to play the piano and often entertained the residents and visitors at McNair Manor. She was a member of the Codiac Chords (Ladies Barber Shoppers), as well as a Kinette and K40 member. Edith was also a proud member and former Noble Grand of the Pearl Rebekah Lodge No. 9, I.O.O.F. Edith is survived by her sister, Bertha Cochrane, of Ottawa; her dearly loved sons, G. Douglas (Lois), of Dieppe, Ronald (Beth), of Riverview and Neil (Jocelyn), of Riverview; her grandchildren, Craig Sparks (Melanie) of Oromocto, Jeff Sparks (Suzanne Beaulieu), of Riverview, Joann Mallet (Steve), of Riverview, David Sparks, of Moncton, Michael Sparks, of Montreal, Chris Sparks (Jess Yeomans), of Riverview and Allison Sparks, of Riverview; her great-grandchildren, Emma, Madison, Jacob, Josée, Philip, Jacob, Sam and Brooke; her step-grandchildren, Rick Charlton, Stephen Charlton and Elsa Russell, all of Saint John; her step great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Vanessa, Adam, Laura, Kyle, Rebecca and Brent; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from Fair Haven Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service at Highfield Street United Baptist Church, 290 St. George Blvd., Moncton on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 10:30 am. With a reception to follow at the church. Committal service at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens at 1:30 pm. Donations in Edith’s memory made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital, Lakeview Manor, Highfield Street United Baptist Church or charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
