At Margaret Stewart Ellis Home, O'Leary, on Sunday, August 14, 2011, of John Robert Lewis, aged 89, veteran of the Second World War, formerly of Woodstock, husband of the late Elsie May (Dignan).
Born October 2, 1921, John was the son of the late Harry and Mary Jane (Butler) Lewis. Dear father to Dr. Ralph (Dianne), Pennsylvania; Arthur (Frances), Howlan; and Betty (Erwin) Phillips, West Cape. Loving grandfather to Scott Lewis, Pittsburg; Michelle Lewis (David Gamble), Unionvale; Mark Lewis, Woodstock; Stephen (Natalie) Lewis, Halifax; and Dwayne Phillips (Mandi Grace), West Cape. Cherished great-grandfather to Khloe, Jacob, Ellie, Evan, Hanna and Dawson. John is also survived by brothers and sisters, Harry (Ella) Lewis, Woodstock; Alma (Jack), Westall, Ontario; Leigh (Phyllis) Lewis, Cascumpec; Jennie (Wendell) Harrington, Kensington; Rev. Lawrence (Iris) Lewis, Ontario; Hazel Black, Alberta; Keith (Iris) Lewis, Howlan; Verna Boss, Halifax; and by sister-in-law, Norma Coulter, Debert, N.S.
Predeceased by his parents; wife, Elsie May (September 18, 1994); granddaughter, Sheila Phillips; brothers, Marne (Gertrude), George, Lloyd, Ralph; sisters, Grace (Wallace) Moase, Gladys, Florence; and by brothers-in-law, Donald Black and Oral Boss.
Resting at the Ferguson Funeral Home and Chapel, O'Leary, with visiting hours Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held Thursday at the O'Leary United Church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Bloomfield United Church Cemetery.
Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, O'Leary, will hold a service of remembrance for their late comrade at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.
