MacNeil Sister Mary Miles
(Mary Priscilla) 95, Halifax
MacNeil Sister Mary Miles (Mary Priscilla), 95, passed away July 3, 2011 in Seton Way, Parkhouse Enchanced Care, Halifax. Born in NewWaterford, she was the daughter of the late John and Sarah MacNeil. She entered the Sisters of Charity in 1933 and made her Religious Profession in 1936. She taught school for 43 years in Glace Bay, Ketch Harbour, Bedford, NewWaterford, North Sydney and Reserve, as well as Riverton, N.J., Hamilton, Bermuda. On retiring, using her skills as a Reading Specialist she continued working with children as a volunteer. She returned to the Motherhouse in 1995. She is survived by brother Malcolm (Lorna), Sister-in-law Rae MacNeil, Nieces Vivian, Toronto and Agnes, Dartmouth,Nephews Phonse, Glace Bay and Miles, Collingwood and a very special cousin June Brasill, Brocton Mass, who spent time with Sister in the summers. She was predeceased by brothers John and Angus. The wake took place at Caritas Residence, July 5, 2011 from 3 – 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was July 6, 2011 in Immaculate Conception Chapel, Caritas Residence. Burial followed in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
