Colborne, Laura Isabel - Age 100, of East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash, N.S.
and formerly of The White Birches, Amherst and West Pugwash, passed on to a
better life with her beloved Bill and her Saviour on Saturday, October 3,
2009. Born in Pugwash, December 22, 1908, she was the daughter of the late
George and Annie (Wood) Smith. Laura was a devoted wife to Bill, her husband of
forty-five years; a classic homemaker who took great joy in her family;
and an adoring Nanny who will be remembered for her many songs and always
full cookie jar. The deep faith instilled in her at a young age
followed her through-out her life. She was a dedicated, life-long member of
Pugwash Memorial Baptist Church and a life member of the Pugwash
Baptist Women's Missionary Society. Laura was the organist and Sunday
School Superintendent for several years and an enthusiastic choir member for
over seventy years. Laura will be remembered by many in both her church and
her community for her deep faith, thoughtfulness and kindness to all.
Laura leaves a lasting legacy in her caring family and is lovingly
remembered by daughter Isabel (the late Bernard) Sproule, Amherst, their daughters
Kathy (Dave) Miner, Susan Sproule and Patti (Reg) Enright; son Rodger and
wife Joan, Labrador City, Labrador, along with their children Bill (Pam),
Bonnie (Danny) Smith, Kim (Paul) Wilkie, Becky (Bill Kent), Bruce (Tracy) and Colin
(Amanda); son David and wife Betty, Summerside, P.E.I. and their daughters Lori
(Frank Barry) and Tracy (Paul Jackman); daughter Penny and husband Donald
Crummey of Pugwash and their children Laura Lee (Darrell) Bustin, Judy
(Brent) Baxter and Joe (Angela); daughter-in-law Joan Snell, Head of
Chezzetcook and her children Dave Colborne, Debbie (Brian) MacAuley, Brian
and Garnet Colborne; grandson Steve (Angela) Colborne and his mother, Gloria
Dickinson, Amherst; 42 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren;
niece, Joan Forshner, Dartmouth and nephew, Terry Smith of Pugwash.
The last surviving member of her family, she was predeceased by husband
William (Bill); son Glenn; sister, Evelyn, brothers Herbert and Harry.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM in Mundle's
Funeral Home, 204 Water St.,Pugwash (243-2506). A service of remembrance will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, October 7 in Memorial Baptist Church, Pugwash, Pastor Joe Crummey officiating. Interment will follow in Palmerston Cemetery, Pugwash. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the East Cumberland Lodge or Palmerston Cemetery, Pugwash.
