Mary B. Martin (nee Chubbs)

Of Carbonear. Surrounded by her loving family, Mary passed peacefully away on August 17, 2011 at the age of 86. She was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband, James T. originally of Grates Cove (December 1986), father and mother Robert and Maud Chubbs, beloved granddaughter Cindy Wall, sisters Addie Macdonald, and Margaret Lee and brother Robert Chubbs. Mary leaves her family members with fond and loving memories: daughter Sylvia Wall (Phil); sons: Roland (Susan), Raymond (Angela), Gary (Debbie); sisters: Annie Reid, and Hilda Belbin; and brothers: Gordon Chubbs (Doreen), and Harold Chubbs (Marina). Mary was warmly known as "Nannie" to her seven grandchildren: Catherine Charland (Shawn), David Martin (Chisako), Gillian Martin (Andrew), Colin Martin (fiancee-Kellee Stamp), Robyn Martin, Stacy D'Agostino (Dominic), and Monica Martin; and to her six great-grandchildren Emma Charland, Angus Charland, James Martin, Isabella D'Agostino, Emileo D'Agostino, and Ryan Martin. "Aunt Mary" was a wise and caring friend to her many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends, both in the Province and throughout North America, including her very close niece Eleanor Butt. Mary will be fondly remembered by the Friday night ladies card game group, her bowling club of over 45-years, her St. James United Church members, choir, and committees where she was so active, and which she and husband James were one of the founding families, and by her many friends. Mary will also be remembered by the staff and customers of JT Martin and Sons Limited, the family business, where she was a Director since 1979, and regularly drove to work at the office until her recent illness. Mary is resting at Carnell's Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road. Visitations will be 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Friday, August 19th, and 2-4 pm on Saturday the 20th. The funeral service will be at St. James United Church at 2 pm on Monday, August 22nd. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada in memory of Cindy Wall or the Canadian Cancer Society.
