It is with heavy hearts that the family announce the passing of Dara Colpitts on October 4, 2009 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, surrounded by his family, friends, and special friend, Lauchie Rector. Dara was born on August 4, 1949 in Parrsboro to the late Aubrey and Kathleen Colpitts. He is survived by his siblings, Sylvia (Wayne) Boyd, Glenholme, Debbie (Glenn) Buchanan, East Village, Wayne, Windsor, Ont., Betty, Halifax, Marilyn Elderton, Connecticut; several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his loving daughters, Tracy (Blake) Fisher, Glenholme, Shelly (Jody) McBurnie, Crowes Mills, Dawn Marie Colpitts (Wayne George), Londonderry, Melissa Purcell, Pennsylvania; special daughter of Dara’s, Erin Owen (George Blackie), Belmont. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he always smiled when he spoke of them- Macquel, Wesley, Wyatt, Justin, Kelsey, Alea, Spencer, Cooper, Iris, Corey; two great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Thresea; the mother of his children, Laura, Debert. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Adelle and his loving companion, Susan Owens. Now they are finally together again. The family would like to thank Dr. Henderson, Lisa Wilson and Ann McKim of Palliative Care, the VON and all of the great workers who made his mornings more enjoyable by just being there. Also a special thank you to Iris Peppard for everything she did, to Cindy Ryan and the other nurses. You meant a lot to him and we will not forget any of the special people who came into our lives at this difficult time and helped to fill it with love and compassion. We would also like to acknowledge the nurses on 4-south and Dr. Michael Murray for their care and empathy. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7 from 7-9 pm; memorial service on Thursday, October 8 at 2:00 pm, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Pastor Steve Adams officiating.
