Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family at home on Sunday, August 21, 2011, Gus Galgay (GUS THE BARBER), age 62. Born February 18, 1949 in St. John’s. Predeceased by his parents Mary (2010) and John Galgay (1974) and mother and father-in-law Rene (2004) and Dan (1967) White. Also predeceased by sister Pauline (1975); brother Gerald Wm. (1993); brothers-in-law: Joe (1978), John (1998), Maurice (1998) and Jimmy (2001). Leaving to mourn with fond and treasured memories his best friend and loving wife of 38 years Frances White; daughters: Danielle (Dave Smith), Main Brook; Carla (John Taite), Ottawa; and son Jonathan and his wife Taracetta, St. John’s. Also leaving to mourn brothers: James, Frank (Rosemary), Kevin (Micheline), Toronto, and Edward; sisters: Maureen Wilson (Doug - deceased), Elizabeth Piercey (George), and Bernadette; sisters-in-law: Esther Burke (Terry), Alice Gibbons (Kevin), Elizabeth Hynes (Douglas); brothers-in-law: George (Marg), Calgary, Eddy (Cindy) and Leo, Brigus; special friend Dick Warford and his family; also a close circle of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Gus will surely be remembered by everyone who came to know him. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre for their compassion and care for Gus during his illness; His Grace, Archbishop Martin Currie, Archbishop Alphonsus Penney, Monsignor James Doody, Father Wayne Dohey, and Father John Maddigan for their friendship and spiritual guidance, and all those who have supported Gus and his family during his illness. Your friendship, loyalty and love will truly be remembered. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Monday, August 22 from 1:00. - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 23 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., and Wednesday, August 24 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, August 24 from St. Patrick’s Church, Patrick Street at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Topsail Road. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to St. Patrick’s Church Heritage Restoration Fund.
