George "Bill" Griffin

GRIFFIN, GEORGE WILLIAM “BILL” - George William “Bill” Griffin, resident of Purdy Avenue, Moncton, passed away on Tuesday August 23, 2011 at the age of 79. Born in Raynardton, Yarmouth, Co., NS, he was the son of the late John William and Rose Ann (Morris) Griffin. Bill entered the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 18 in June of 1949. He served on the following Naval ships – Magnificent, Buckingham, Gatineau and Haida. When he retired from the Royal Canadian Navy in 1969, he had reached the rank of Petty Officer First Class. He was a Commissionaire at CFB Moncton for many years and upon retiring, he was a Commissionaire at the Moncton RCMP Station. Bill will be sadly missed by his wife, Irene (LeBlanc) Griffin of Moncton; his sons, Paul of Ottawa, ON and Jim (Louisianne) of Moncton; two granddaughters, Lisa Griffin-Ndour (Talla) of Fredericton and Christine Griffin of Moncton; brothers, Richard (Corinne) of Oshawa, ON, David (Diane) of Victoria, BC and Norman of Springhaven, NS; sister, Mae Gallagher (Gerald) of Courtney, BC; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Frances.
Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church on Friday August 26, 2011, 11:00 am, Rev. Yvon Arsenault officiating. Reception following the Mass. Interment, Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. In Bill’s memory, donations to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick or St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church would be appreciated by the family.
