Born May 22, 1921, in Dublin, Ireland, Olga was the daughter of the late Edward (Scott) and Elizabeth (Williams) Cooper. Mom passed away after a brief illness at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, N.S., Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009.
She is survived by her children, Valerie Rennie (Grant), Brighton, Ont., Sharron Atkins (Sanford), St. Catharines, Ont., Rocky Young (Janice), Winnipeg, Man., and Shannon Young, Trenton, Ont. Mom had 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was visiting her special nieces, Cynthia Berezuk, Yvonne Mauger and Beve MacDonald in her beloved Cape Breton when she took ill.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Henry Young (Valentine), her sisters, Ida Young, Bras d’Or, and Betty Jenkins, Waterloo, Ont., and niece, Beth Kidney, Etobicoke, Ont.
Mom came to Canada as a war bride in 1946, and settled in Bras d’Or, C.B., then moved to Ontario finally settling in Trenton, Ont., where she resided with her son, Shannon. Mom was a loving, considerate, kind wife, mother and grandmother whose wonderful sense of humour we will miss.
There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, Oct. 9 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
