NEW GLASGOW – Edna Ross Horne, age 96, of Glen Haven Manor, formerly of Alexander Street, New Glasgow, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2011 in the Manor.
Born at Fraser’s Mountain, she was a daughter of the late William Fletcher Grant of Toney River and Maryann “Minnie” (Germain) Grant of Germain Mountain and Trenton.
She was educated in Linacy and New Glasgow schools and after leaving high school, she became a long-time employee of the Goodman Department Store in New Glasgow. She was most at home at the farm, in her garden or kitchen. Edna was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Earle Fraser Horne; son, Allan Horne; daughter-in-law, Linda Horne; grandson, Mark; brothers, Fletcher Chisholm Grant, William Germain Grant and sister, Olive Hunter.
Edna will be missed by her survivors: son, Bruce Horne (Terry), Sinclair’s Island; granddaughters: Erin MacRae (Ian), Halifax; Elaine Horne (Juan), Halifax; Allison Thibault (Jonathan), Grand Falls, Newfoundland; grandsons: Christopher Horne (Tracey), Fraser’s Mountain; Brian Horne (Nicole), Palmyra, PA.; great-grandson, Mason MacRae, Halifax; daughter-in-law, Joyce Horne, New Glasgow; sister, Lillian Wilson, Glen Haven Manor.
No visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011 in Saint Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Richard Sand officiating. Interment will be in Lorne Street Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Linda and Mark Horne Memorial Fund at Saint Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
