Loy Myers Rice passed away on Tuesday October 6, 2009 at the Craik & District Health Centre. Loy was born at Galilee on May 26, 1915, and grew up in the Galilee district, attending Sugar Loaf school. Loy married Olive Paton in 1943 and the couple farmed in the Mitchellton district until moving to Moose Jaw in 1999. Loy still farmed and was Mr. Fix It for many of the farmers. Loy enjoyed hunting, fishing, visiting and reminiscing with all who cared to sit for awhile. Loy cherished the talks with his grandchildren and took great pride in their accomplishments. Predeceased by his parents, son Robert and wife Olive of 59 years, sister Rosalie, brother Chester, and sister Betty. Loy is survived by his daughter Jean (Don) Sullivan – Calgary, daughter-in-law Marcia Rice - Spring Valley, and son Wayne (Marg) Rice – Saskatoon; seven grandchildren Loy (Stacy) Sullivan, Sonia (Dwayne) Sheehan - Calgary, Andrea Rice - Saskatoon, Amy (Brian) Stuart - Whitehorse, Amanda Rice – Spring Valley, Milton (Danielle) Rice - Liberty, Nick Rice - Spring Valley. Seven great-grandchildren, Dawson and Payton Sheehan - Calgary, Everett and Tyne Stuart - Whitehorse, and Weston, Roxanne and Raquel Rice - Liberty. A celebration of Loy’s life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, Friday October 9, 2009 at 1:30 pm. Reverend John Carley will officiate. A Private family memorialization will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice. In living memory of Loy, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
