NICKERSON, Allen Joseph – 49, of Milton Highlands, Yarmouth Co., passed away at home on August 21, 2011. Born March 28, 1962 in Halifax, he was a son of Eunice (Frotten) Nickerson and the late Herman Nickerson. Allen was a fisherman all his working life, fishing with his two brothers. In his younger years, sports were a big part of Allen’s life where he played on various school sports teams. Hockey and baseball became his main focus. Allen played for several teams, both at the local and national level. His highlights were playing baseball in the Canada Games and playing Junior “A” hockey for the Kentville Wildcats. He also coached both hockey and baseball. His passion for sports continued until his final passing. He was very fond of his current team, the Dooly’s Gateways. He is survived by mother, Eunice; brothers, Karl (Rose), Milton Highlands; Mark (Angela), Milton Highlands; sister, Kim Jacquard, Yarmouth; stepbrother, Mike (Yvonne), Milton Highlands; stepsisters, Debbie, Judy and Kathy; nieces, Breanna Jacquard, Annika LeBlanc, Chelsea Boudreau and Amber Boudreau; nephews, Luke Nickerson, Shane Nickerson, Max Nickerson and Raymond Jacquard. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Yarmouth. Visitation took place Tuesday, August 23 from 7-9 p.m. at Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, where funeral service was held Wednesday, August 24 at 2 p.m., Rev. A.D. “Bill” Newell officiated. Interment followed in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Donations in memory may be made to Victorian Order of Nurses (Tri-County branch) or to the Canadian Red Cross.
