It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our sister Joan at the Northside General Hospital on Aug. 29, 2011.
Born in Florence, she was the daughter of the late Alexis & Agnes (MacInnis) Hervé of Pitt Street, Florence.
Joan was a dedicated school teacher having taught in Florence, Cape Breton, and at St. Peter, Holy Trinity and Assumption School Bowness in the Calgary Roman Catholic Separate School System, retiring in 1991 after 36 years.
Joan was a very kind, generous person, not only to her family, but anyone in need, especially children, whom she loved with a passion. She had a great sense of humour, loved to travel and visited many places in the world.
Due to ill health Joan returned to her beloved Cape Breton in 2007 to live with her sister Marguerite, where she enjoyed many good times with family, friends and the Seniors Day Program.
Joan is survived by her siblings Eva (Richard) Scott, Ohio U.S.A., Irene (the late Pat) MacMillan, New Waterford, Regina (Reggie) Jobe, North Sydney, Agnes Reid, Sydney, Marguerite (John) MacNeil, Sydney Mines, and William ‘Billy’ (the late Marguerite), Inverness; her sister-in-law, Hilda Hervé, Shearwater; her foster sister-in-law, Hazel Hart; her lifelong friend, Helen Robertson Holt and her very good friends in Calgary, Jessie, Doreen, Maureen, Dolly and Darryl, to name a few.
Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her daughter, Sherrie Lee Coady, her sister, Freda Devilin, her brother, John Alexis ‘Sonny,’ her foster brother, Wilfred Hart and a sister and two brothers as toddlers.
There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Stephen’s Church, Florence, with Fr. Ajit Kerketta officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery followed by a reception in the parish hall.
Arrangements are under the care of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or to a charity of choice.
