Dunfield, Leonard “Len” Charles — 89, formerly of Falmouth, then Windsor, Hants County, where he resided with his companion, Vivienne Riley. In 2009, he became a resident of Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Leonard was born on November 16, 1921, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to the late Major Charles and Lena Dunfield. At the age of 89 years, Leonard has taken his journey to unite with his youngest son, Peter, on Monday, August 22, 2011, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, surrounded by his loving family. Len left behind his loving companion of 29 years, Vivienne Riley, who he loved and adored; his son, Jeff (Donna) Dunfield, Falmouth; daughter-in-law, Janet Dunfield, Falmouth; the bear hugs will be missed by grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew (Jennifer), Katie (Dan Joudrey), Meghan and Devan; one great granddaughter, Arianna. Besides his parents, Major Charles and Lena Dunfield; Len was predeceased by his son, Peter (September 13, 2010); sister, Cecila Hasey (2000). In his earlier years, he was a man of various careers, he was in the Canadian Air Force from 1942-45; an announcer for CFAB and CKEN radio stations, along with the station he built in Summerside, PEI. He worked as a cook at Bustin’s Restaurant, Windsor and had owned the Riverside Grill, Windsor. He also did security at the Avon Valley Greenhouses, Falmouth and was Post Master at Falmouth, from where he retired in 1987. Len also loved his music, dancing and travelling. You always heard him singing a tune. Cremation has taken place and visitation was 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, in Lindsay’ s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2011, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Marilyn Lamb officiated, followed by a reception in the Lindsay Family Recreation Centre, 184 King Street. Interment was held in the Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Town Road, Falmouth. Family flowers only, donations in memory of Len were requested to be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or to the Hants County SPCA.
