Frank W. Babcock age 79, of Amherst passed away Monday, October 5, 2009 at Dr. George L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton, NB.
Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late William and Edna Babcock.
Frank worked Fawcett Foundry and CNR before joining the Royal Canadian Navy where he served on a number of mine sweepers, frigates and destroyers for many years.
He finished his career at CFB Goose Bay, Labrador as Chief Petty Officer with 25 years service, he then retired to Amherst. Frank was a life member of C.F.B. Halifax Chief's and P.O.'s Mess as well as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 29 years.
He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration with clasp.
Frank is survived by one sister Winona (John) Norton of Ottawa, ON, one brother Roderick of Amherst, two step daughters Zita (Fred) Hubbard of Yarmouth, NS and Joan (Bert) Mullen of Lower Sackville, NS, one step son Walter of Halifax, 6 step grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Rita, one brother Donald and one sister Mary Wilson.
Cremation has taken place.
A graveside service for Frank and his wife Rita who passed away in 2007 will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 3 p.m. in the Amherst Cemetery with Rev. Byron Corkum officiating.
Donations in Frank's memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
