Edwin 'Ted' Woolgar

Lieu de naissance : Walkerville, Ontario, Canada

Lieu de décès : SYDNEY, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 1er septembre 2011

It is with deep regret, but also with respect for the life well-lived, that we, the family of Edwin William ‘Ted’ Woolgar, announce his passing. Ted passed away peacefully, his daughters by his side, on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a brief illness.
Ted was born in Walkerville, Ont. in 1920, the son of the late William and Helen Woolgar.
At the outbreak of the Second World War, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as Flight Sargent with the 162 Squadron, serving in Iceland. In 1945, he married Nan MacKinnon, whom he met in Sydney during his wartime service. Ted was employed as a machinist at the naval base and then worked at Canada Post, until his retirement. He was an active member and elder of St. Andrew’s United Church for more than 50 years, as well as being a member of the Men’s Club. His sense of community involvement extended to such organizations as the Sydney Y’s Men’s Club, where he held the offices of President and District Governor and the Sydney Kiwanis Golden K. He also served on the Board of Directors of the YMCA, as well as the Harbour Ports Development Board. These various memberships and associations brought him lasting friendships and fond memories. Ted was an avid reader, known for burning the midnight oil with many good books. He enjoyed travel and sports, rarely missing an Eagles game.
Ted is survived by his daughters, Nancy and Margie and grandchildren, Mark Zagoudis and Stephen and Jeffrey MacFadgen.
He was predeceased by his wife, Nan.
Ted was in all respects a gentleman, his natural disposition being one of kindness and consideration to others. To his country, he provided duty; to his community, service; to his friends, time and to his family, love. This, his legacy, is one that shall forever comfort all who knew, cherished, and loved him.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Sunday 2 p.m., with Rev. Thomas Whent officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In Ted’s memory, donations may be made to the Sydney Y’s Men’s Club or a charity of choice.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca.
