Always an early riser, Mom peacefully left us in the early hours on Friday, the 19th, at her residence in Kamloops at the age of 94.
Mom was born on the family farm in Saskatchewan, the eldest of five children, to John and Martha Vanin. In her mid twenties, Mom's adventurous spirit kicked in and she moved to Toronto, and later to British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and then in 1959, with her four children, she returned to Vancouver. She spent several years in Sointula where she could often be found walking along the shore, beachcombing, and just enjoying the ocean. When Mom retired, she was bitten by the travel bug, visiting Russia, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and many trips to Reno. Mom's life wasn't always easy, but her incredible strength carried her, and left a legacy that will continue to influence us.
She will be greatly missed by her children Les (Natasha), Gene, Shirley (Gary) and Myra (Glenn); her grandchildren David, Karin, Sherri, Gordon, Cindy, Joel and Aaron and seven great grandchildren. She also leaves her brother Michael, sister Stella (John) sister-in-law Verna, brothers-in-law Les & Roland and many nieces & nephews.
