Lorne Layton Dernier
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lorne Layton Dernier, age 87, of Fort Lawrence, Cumberland County, N.S., announce his passing on Thursday, September 1, 2011, in Moncton Hospital.
Born in Fort Lawrence, he was a son of the late Lorne and Emma (Chapman) Dernier. Lorne worked at Enheat in Amherst for 30 years and later was employed with General Homes, Amherst, until his retirement. He was a very devoted member of Trinity-St. Stephen’s United Church, Amherst, where he served on numerous committees. He was a former member of the Alexandra Lodge #87, Amherst.
Lorne will be sadly missed by his wife the former Betty Doncaster; three daughters, Donna Clarke and Marjorie (Dana) Steeves, both of Charlottetown, P.E.I., and Nancy (Greg) Bembridge of Ottawa, ON; two grandchildren, Andrew (Cherisse) Clarke of Dartmouth and Jennifer Clarke of Halifax; one great-granddaughter, Gabriella Clarke; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Lorne was predeceased by brothers, Colin and Donald.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, (667-9906) with Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating.
