Carmella Conrod, 72, of Forsyth Street, New Waterford, passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Catherine (MacEachern) Fraser.
Carmella was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In her younger years, Carmella worked at a press company in Ontario. She loved to dance, play poker and shoot darts. She was a very caring, loving, family-orientated woman. Carmella was not only compassionate to her family, but to others as well. She would always take in boarders and help them with their life journey.
Carmella is survived by her ex-husband, Bernard Conrod; daughters, Jeanne (Vance), Newfoundland, Bernadette, New Waterford; and one son, Jim (Kristi), British Columbia. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Rachael, Cali, Deionne, Vicki, Danni, Couper, Blake, Hope, Brett; great-grandson, Carsen; and several nieces and nephews with whom she was very close.
Carmella was predeceased by her partner, Michael ‘Farmer’ MacNeil, sons, Daniel, Johnnie, three sisters, Marcella, Annie, Jean and one brother, James ‘Jim’.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Ray Huntley is Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. Leonard’s Church with cremation to follow. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy for Carmella, memorial donations may be made to St. Agnes Cemetery Fund.
