Melvin Cecil "Mr Fix-it" Guild

Mel passed away peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday, September 6th, 2011 at Providence Place in Moose Jaw. Mel, at the age of 88, beloved husband of Hilda for over 29 years. Loving father of Muriel and Sharon, and step-dad of Karen, Laurel, Mary, Julie, Fay, Gail and Nola. He will be greatly missed by his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren that were his pride and joy, by his sister Pat Wheeler and by his best friend and brother in-law, Jack Wheeler. Mel was predeceased by his much loved grandchildren Garrett and baby Marlo, by his nephew Glen Wheeler, his sister, Clara and by his brothers Roy, Gord and Alvin. Mel was born in the Briercrest area to Herman and Rose Guild on August 14th, 1923. He attended his early school years in Tilney, SK, but continued his education at Moose Jaw Technical School, where he was trained in several trades that he would become proficient at in his working years. He, with his parents, purchased a quarter section of land in the Tilney Area in 1945, farming there until 1985. He had moved to Moose Jaw in 1978, and worked for Sammy Kline framing pictures at Thompson Framing, and later worked in the maintenance department at the Moose Jaw Mall where he became known as “Mr. Fix-it”. Mel was a very active and energetic person, having many interests over the years. He loved music, attending many of the earlier years of the Sandy Creek Gospel Jamboree, and calling square dances. He loved nature, and being outside, enjoyed hockey and horseback riding. He was very fond of children, and loved interacting with the children on his bus route in Briercrest, but was especially happy when he could spend his time playing and teasing his cherished grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held for Mel on Monday, September 12th, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Parkview Funeral Chapel. A family inurnment will take place at a later date at the Blue Hill Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, and in honor of Mel’s love of children, memorial donations to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan, Provincial Office #1-345 Third Ave. South, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1M6 would be greatly appreciated.
