WESTVILLE – Linda Gail (Skidmore) Urquhart.
The family of the late Linda Gail Urquhart, 60, of Spring Garden Road, Westville, announces with great sadness the passing of their beloved sister, aunt and friend after her courageous battle with cancer (Multiple Myeloma) on Thursday, September 8, 2011.
Born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia on September 23, 1950, she was a daughter of the late Arnold and Dorothy (Sweet) Skidmore.
Linda enjoyed travelling, dancing, swimming, knitting, quilting, photography, and especially the many weekends getting away with Dale to enjoy a Bluegrass Festival. Linda will be remembered as an elegant and strong woman with a great positive attitude, who carried herself with great dignity and grace throughout her life. Her most joyful times were spent in the comfort of her loving family. In her own words… “we all have each other to lean on, to cheer on, to love and we must never take anyone for granted, as life is sometimes too short.” She cherished and appreciated every moment of her full life. She especially appreciated her sisters and brothers including her in the special events in their children’s lives whom she loved so very much.
Surviving are her brothers: Bill, Stellarton; Richard (Ian), New Glasgow; Philip (Theresa), their children Wendy-Dawn (Oliver) and Jason, Wainwright, Alberta; Kerry (Darlene), their children Linda, Andrew (Tina), and Steven of Calgary, Alberta; sisters: Karen Lahaie (Jules), their children Neal (Selena), Winnipeg, Sherry-Lynn (Andrew) Toronto, and Louis (Sharla) of Thompson, Manitoba; Catherine Callahan (Gerard), their children Josh, Jake (Callie), and Amanda of Prince George, BC; grand-nephews: Brandon, Josh, Jesse, and Seth; grandnieces (whom she loved to talk to on the telephone, and when together they always had tea parties) Shayla, Ashlyn, Cara, Savannah-Lee, Eva Catherine and Scotia Anne-Marie. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Cindy Larson, and her children Morgan and Rowan, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.
Linda was employed for almost 25 years as a legal assistant to Richard S. Goodman, of the law firm of Goodman MacDonald Patterson. For many years she volunteered with the Royal Canadian Legion holding a life membership to Normandy Branch 34, New Glasgow, where she also held the offices of Secretary and President. Linda was also a member of the Zone 6 Color Party and at the zone level she held the position of Zone 6 Secretary/Treasurer, retiring from both due to her ill health. She was a member of the St. Bee’s Anglican Church, Westville, and a former member of their Helping Hands Group. Her sisters Karen and Catherine and brothers Richard and Billy were loving care givers providing support in many ways to ease the burden of her illness. Also, her Aunt Marion Bernath travelled from Essex, Ontario, to help care for her during these trying times. Linda’s many friends were a very important part of her life and she leaves to mourn, those closest to her, Bonnie MacLaren, Joanne Machardy, Rose Belleville, Agnes Hoddinott, Joanne Whidden, Joyce Jobe, and Carol Horton.
Many thanks go to Gail Whetsone from Ottawa, and Linda Payne and Cathy Gallant (the Newfoundland Ladies) who showed love and compassion.
She was predeceased by her first spouse, Ned Curley in 1992, second spouse Dale Urquhart in 2011, maternal grandparents Edward and Blanche (Quinn) Sweet, of the Magdalen Islands, and paternal grandparents Elverton and Marion (Dunbar) Skidmore of Stellarton, and one niece Rebecca Marie Skidmore, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Her remains will rest at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow with visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 on Sunday, September 11, 2011. Cremation to follow. Funeral service at St. Bee’s Anglican Church, Westville, at 2 p.m. Monday, September 12, 2011 with Rev. Peter Armstrong presiding. Interment in Christ Anglican Church Cemetery, Stellarton.
