MCDONOUGH, CAROL ANNE - (1947 - 2011) - The passing of Carol Anne McDonough occurred at Bobby’s Hope House on Thursday, September 8, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Carol was born 1947 in Saint John, daughter of the late Edna Blanche (MacNeill) and Basil Emery McDonough. She attended St. Vincent’s High School and was a Graduate of Modern Business College. Carol had last been employed by Charlotte County Refrigeration Ltd. for 8 years and prior to that held several office positions including many years with the bank. She met and came to know many good friends during her time on earth. Over the years she had volunteered with the CNIB, Saint John Regional Hospital, Canada Revenue Agency, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #69, Meals on Wheels and Kidney Foundation. Her joy was bowling for many years, having had to retire due to health reasons after being on Team Canada. She enjoyed visiting family whenever she could. Carol will be missed by her regular clientele who called her their “Tax Lady” as she looked forward to seeing them each year. She was very grateful for Hope Allaby, Dr. Margot Burnell, Dr. Laurel Comeau, Dr. Andrea Canty, Dr. Don McDonah, Dr. Michael Morse, Dr. Kerry Sheppard, Dr. James Mowatt, Dr. Jennifer Fletcher and especially Dr. Chris O’Brien of Hospice and the nurses, staff and volunteers for all the care they have given her over the time spent there. She could not have picked a more helpful medical team to assist when she needed them most. She also often remarked how thankful she was for the many nurses at SJRH in the Oncology Department for their help and dedication. Thanks to them, she had several years of recovery. She would not have survived this long were it not for the love of family, the encouragement and kindness of friends and the professional and caring members of the medical community. Carol is survived by her son, Michael Garland (Wendi Lawrence) of Vancouver, BC; granddaughter Michayla Garland of Sussex; brother Clifford McDonough of Saint John; sister Nancy LaPlante (Jacques) of Saint John; aunts Betty McNab (Frank) and Anne Dahl of Charlottetown, PE; Lena McDonough of Harvey, NB and Lillian Harrison of Saint John; adopted brother Sid Bullen; 18 cousins, four nieces and four nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her son David Emery Garland and brother Robert (Egor) McDonough. She will be sadly missed by her very good friends Anita Gallant, Millie McAdam, Dot MacDonald, Gail Campbell, Doreen Cassidy and her pet cat, Sam.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on Monday, September 12th and Tuesday, September 13th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Liturgy will be held at Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 10 am. Interment will take place at a later date.
