Bette L. M. Casey
SPRINGHILL – Aged 89, Bette L. M. Casey, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Monday, September 5, 2011 at home.
Born in Moncton, NB, she was a daughter of the late John F. and Josephine (Morrison) Leightizer. Bette was a teacher for over 25 years in Cumberland County schools including South Athol, Oxford Junction, Springhill Junction and Leamington. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church and CWL. Bette was also a member of the Pythian Sisters and Nomads Lodges. Bette was a devoted and loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother.
She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. She is survived by her daughters, Claudia Newman; Sheila Rae (Mick) McBurnie; Stephanie Casey, all of Springhill; Bronwyn Casey (Michael Adams), Halifax; Tara Casey (Patrick Nauss), Chester; sons, Edgar, Truro; Ervin (Kelly) and John (Monica), both of Springhill; sisters, Joyce Llewelyn, Edmonton, AB; Patricia, Elliot Lake, ON; brother, Sidney, Waterloo, ON; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren. Bette was predeceased by her husband, Basil in 1985; sisters, Mary, Connie, Rae, and Penelope; brothers, George, Jack, and Jim.
Visitation was held Wednesday, September 7, in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford (447-2930).
Funeral service was held Thursday, September 8, in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Springhill, with Father David MacDonald officiating.
