Joan Larlee

LARLEE, JOAN MURPHY - 1930 - 2011- Joan Murphy Larlee passed away on August 21, 2011 in Aiken, South Carolina. Born in Moncton, NB on August 14, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Fred P. Murphy and Thelma Ahearn. She was employed with the Moncton Transcript prior to her marriage in 1951 to Gordon (Don) Amos Larlee who was a former player with the Moncton Hawks senior hockey team. They moved to Aiken where Don was a trainer and driver of harness racing horses. Don was from Edmundston, NB and died in 1992. In her early career she worked as a telephone operator and as a race secretary in New York. Joan volunteered as a pink lady for the Aiken Hospital and was a member of St, Mary’s Catholic Church. After her children were grown she worked until her retirement from Owens Corning in the medical department. Joan’s love of family was captured through her favorite hobby photography. She is survived by her three children. Patti, Worchester, NY, Beth (Rich), Alexandria, VA and Grant (Kathryn), Aiken, SC. She also leaves her long time friend James Larente and his three children, Jimmy, Robert and Suzanne. She also leaves brothers and sisters- Hubert, Gregory (Laura), Patrick (Claire), Daniel (Claudette), John (Rose), Bernadette (Gary), VanBuskirk, Maureen of Moncton, Neil (Sherill) New Minas, NS, Kevin (Sandy) Riverview, David (Theresa) Omaha, Nebraska, Ann (Jim deceased) Caddell, Saint John and deceased brother Raymond (Rita, deceased), Kingston, ON. and step mother Agnes Murphy. Grandchildren are Colleen (Howard) Roach, McConnellville, NY, Clint Thomas March, Oneida, NY, Grant Whitney Larlee II and Grey Townsend Larlee, Aiken. Great-grandchildren Samantha, Kaithlyn and Nathan Roache.
A funeral mass was held September 7, 2011 at St Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken.
