The death occurred peacefully on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at the Colville Manor in Souris of Cecilia McCloskey in her 98th year. Beloved wife of the late Gerard P. McCloskey of Bear River. Loving mother of Andrea (Guy) McIntosh of Tea Hill and Melanie McCloskey of Guilford, Connecticut. Adored grandmother of Neil (Sarah) McIntosh and Mary-Catherine McIntosh of Calgary. Remembered by nephews John (Honda) and Eileen Kelly of New York, Bruce, Michael, John (Kate) Kelly and boys. Survived by sisters-in-law Kathleen and Zoie McCloskey. Predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Mary Catherine MacEachern, brother Gus and sister Catherine (Peter) Kelly, sisters-in-law Kathleen McInnis, sister Margaret McCloskey, brothers-in-law Tom, Charlie and Waldo McCloskey. Born in Hermanville, Celia and her family moved to Charlottetown when her father was killed in the First World War. After finishing school at St. Joseph’s Convent she spent many years on Park Avenue in New York working as a nanny. She settled in Bear River with her soul mate, G.P. where she resided until she became a resident at the Colville Manor in 2004. Her generosity and love of all mankind, including all animals both wild and domestic, was part of her daily life. She always gave of herself, taking care of her invalid Aunt Marcella, mother and mother-in-law for many years. Her flamboyance was evident in her love for bright colours and numerous hats. She loved to read, write letters, recite poetry, pick berries and walk with her German shepard dogs, but most of all she loved to laugh. She was perceptive and her retorts were cynical and humorous. Above and beyond was her dedication to her family, who will forever remember, Mom, Grammie and Celie. Resting at the Dingwell Funeral Home in Souris for visiting hours on Friday, October 16, 2009, from 5-8 pm and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until funeral time. Funeral to be held on Saturday morning, October 17, 2009, to St. Margarets Roman Catholic Church for funeral mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment in St. Alexis Church Cemetery in Rollo Bay.
