John Fraser Kennedy, 95, Little Lorraine, C.B., died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, surrounded by family at Taigh Na Mara Veteran’s Nursing Home in Glace Bay, N.S.
Fraser was a lobster fisherman for over 75 years. He started by helping his father at 12 years of age and retired at 89. Fraser served with the Merchant Navy during the Second World War.
Fraser was the son of the late Michael William Kennedy and Jane Burke. He was predeceased by Loretta Bates, his wife of 55 years.
Fraser is survived by his children, Catherine (Ron Girard), Fraser (Anne Mesher), Gregory (Margeurite Tushaus); 12 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren, as well as one brother, Joseph Kennedy; sisters, Catherine Ley, Susan (Sylvester Burke) and Vera MacIsaac.
Fraser was predeceased by brothers, Vincent, Jim, Charles; sisters, Cleophas Bona, Bridget Kennedy, Helen Dufresne and Mary Golden.
Visitation will take place Sunday, Sept.18, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Main-a-Dieu. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Rajasekar officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association.
We are grateful to the dedicated staff of Taigh Na Mara Veteran’s Nursing Home for their wonderful care and professionalism. We’d also like to thank Alice Mailman and all the caregivers who worked with dad over the last few years. He was able to stay at home as long as he did because of all of you.
