Lieu de décès : Glace Bay, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 15 septembre 2011

With broken hearts and a great sense of loss, we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and sister Mary MacAulay. Mary peacefully passed away while surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 15th, 2011 at Taigh Na Mara, where she has been a resident the past four years.
Born in Glace Bay on May 31st, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Elizabeth (Boone) Kelly and was a member of St. John’s Church. Prior to her stay at Taigh Na Mara, Mary was a longtime resident of Cooling St., Glace Bay. Mom was a very active member of St. John’s Parish; a woman of tremendous faith in God and her church.
Mom worked for many years as cashier at Shores Food Fair in Glace Bay, where she was admired and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. As a mother and grandmother, she was always happy to share the wisdom she had gained over the years. Mary also displayed great cooking and baking skills, which were enjoyed by everyone who entered her home.
Mary is survived by her son Gary (Nancy) MacAulay and daughter Belinda (Ralph) Hoffman, both of Glace Bay. She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren Chad and Ryan Hoffman, Jill (Mike) MacIsaac and Luke and Brianna MacAulay, who will miss their Nana’s love, patience and guidance, but will always cherish their happy memories of her.
The oldest of fourteen children, mom is survived by brothers, Ned (Anna), Dennis (Marie), Jerome (Marie), Jude (Elaine), Bernie (Dot), John (Dorothy), Willie (Mary); sisters Cleo (Wincie) Egan, Ann (Gordie) Boudreau and Arlene Kelly, all of Glace Bay.
Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband of 60 years and best friend Will MacAulay (2008); sisters Pearl (Bunny) MacDonald and Elizabeth and Caroline, both in infancy.
Visitation for Mary will be held Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Monday, September 19th, 2011 at St. John’s Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for Mary, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
Do what you can for others,
Hear their distressful cry.
God sees how we treat others,
He knows when we pass them by.
Never leave kind words unspoken,
Greet each one with a smile.
Each day will grow brighter,
Each day more worthwhile.
‘Mom lived her life by these words’
