Born in Glace Bay of the late James and Grace (Coleman) Hickey.
Married for 50 years to George, her loving and devoted husband, whose military career carried them across Canada. There they built lifelong friendships. One of Louise’s first jobs was as a telephone operator for the Dominion Coal Company in Glace Bay. Louise and George loved to travel, and toured England, Scotland, Ireland even having her picture sketched on a Paris Street. They cruised, visited Hawaii and eventually settled in Florida for winters.
Also surviving are children, Richard, Michelle (Chesley), Dartmouth and Krista, Arizona. Special grandchildren, Ryan, Garrett, Coleman; siblings, David and John (Charlotte), Glace Bay and sister, Phyllis (Wilfred) MacEachern; also nephews, Ryan (Tessa Johnston) MacLean and son, Dylan and Brennan (Jolene) and sons, Cody and Nicholas, Cold Lake, Alta.
Predeceased by brother, Carter.
Louise loved flowers and had a gift for decorating, making her home warm and inviting, including her Ben Eoin Campground site.
A devoted Catholic, she was past president of CWL, Shannon Park.
A previous memorial Mass was held in Dartmouth. Interment of her ashes will take place at St. Anne’s Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 24th at 11 a.m. Where she will be home to stay in her beloved Cape Breton. Following interment family and friends will gather for a ‘Celebration of her Life’ at her sister’s home, Trout Brook Road, Marion Bridge.
