With broken hearts and deep sorrow we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Joyce Catherine Clarke (nee Corbett), 78, a resident of Johnson street North Sydney, on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Pius and Elizabeth (MacKay) Corbett.
Joyce was a big fan of North Sydney Little League and never missed a game. She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney.
Joyce is survived by her two sons, Jim (Wendy) Clarke of North Sydney, and Kenneth (Bernadine) Clarke of Cole Harbour. She is also survived by two special grandchildren, Ryan and Joshua Clarke, whom she adored with all her heart. Two brothers, Pius Tommy (Muriel) Corbett, Dominion, Greg (Mary Louise) Corbett, Thompson, Man.; sisters, Geraldine (Joe) Williams, Sydney Mines, Lillian Usher and Muriel Corbett, Glace Bay, Florence (Dell) Peach, Sydney, Colette Parsons (Dave Turner), Louisburg, Loretta (Kenny) Munroe and Frances Corbett, Dominion, Valerie (Jim) Calhoun, Barrie, Ont., Marion (Len) Braganaza, Mississauga, Ont., and Evangeline (David) Pasher, Toronto, Ont. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Clarke, three brothers, Jim (Carlotta) Corbett, Brandon, Man., Robert Corbett, Dominion and Kenneth Corbett in infancy.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Cape Breton Regional OR, Recovery and ICU departments for their extraordinary care to both Mom and her family.
Visitation for Joyce will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mathew Wesley United Church, North Sydney, with Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial to follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
As an expression of sympathy for Joyce, memorial donations may be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation or to a charity of choice.
