Henry Gates
1940 - 2011
Henry Gates, age 71, of River Hebert, passed away peacefully with family by his side, on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center. Born in River Hebert, he was a son of the Late John and Cora (Miller) Gates.
Henry was a resident of Gables Lodge for the last 5 years. He was a member of St. Albans Anglican Church, River Hebert. He worked as a sanitary engineer with the Municipality of Cumberland County and PBS, with 28 years of service. Henry was a loyal Elvis fan and enjoyed country music, as well as playing his guitar and singing. He also enjoyed movies, ball games, and taking time to socialize with people in the community.
Henry will be sadly missed by his sisters, Vera Mills and Cora Hoeg, both of Joggins, Doreen Hurley of Maccan, and Margie (Perry) White of Amherst; brothers, Harold (Emma) of River Hebert, and James of Kamloops, BC; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother Arthur, and a sister Annie Dauphinee.
Cremation has taken place under the care and supervision of Furlong - Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St, Amherst (667-8777), from where visitation will take place on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from noon until 2 pm. A memorial service will be held immediately following visitation at 2 pm from the funeral home. Burial will take place in the River Hebert Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Henry may do so to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
