MERKS, Johannes “John” Joseph - 82, of Wolfville, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2011 in the Wolfville Nursing Home. Born in The Netherlands, he was a son of the late Johannes and Ardina (verHoeven) Merks of Velddriel, The Netherlands. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lucia (vanHerwÿnen) Merks; children, Diane (Peter) Porskamp, Sheffield Mills; Andre (Janie), Gaspereau; Willy (Nancy), Brooklyn; John (Lisa), Moncton, New Brunswick; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews; a brother, Nico (Nellie) and a sister, Dieny, both of Holland. He was predeceased by an infant son, Gerald John; brothers, Hildebrand, Leo, Frank, Jan, Joe and Mies; a sister, Zus. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation, by request. A private family funeral service was held in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. No flowers, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the Wolfville Nursing Home.
