Vergie Knippelberg
Knippelberg, Vergie Marie, age 90 of Swift Current passed away September 4, 2011 at Mankota, SK. The memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 8, 2011 from the Chapel of Warren's Funeral Home with Reverend Jonathan Hoskin officiating. The soloist was Maureen Olenic accompanied by organist,Arlie Neufeld. Readers were Treena Blake and Marlene Selensky. The life tribute was presented by a niece, Myrna Walker. Honorary Pallbearers were all who shared in her life. The interment service took place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Veterans Plot. Marie was born on September 12, 1920 on the family farm in the Mankota District. She attended school at the Alloa School. On December 20, 1941, she married Jacob Knippelberg in Mankota. Following the War, the couple operated the General Store. Following this she worked at the Co-op for eleven years and then joined Jacob helping with the farm. They retired from farming and spent two years in Texas and 18 years in Arizona during the winters, until Jacob's health began to fail. Marie enjoyed golfing, curling, shuffleboard and card games of all types, especially poker. She became affectionately known as "Ms. Marie" when she would visit the casino. Marie was a feisty, loving, good-humored lady. She could tell a whopper of a joke. Many summers where spent out at Cypress Hills Park, where she would try to teach the girls to whistle with their finger and many a Christmases was spent as family in Arizona. Marie is survived by her daughter Carole Smith and special friend Laurie Silbernagel; grandchildren Michelle Blydo and her children Dariyn and Shaye of Cochrane, AB.; Candice (Kelly) Baron and their daughter Christina of Chestermere, AB: son-in-law Clayton Russell of Stoughton SK.; grandchildren Carmen Russell and her daughter Shantelle; Guy Russell and special friend Amy and their children Amber, Katrina, Brian, Randie and Tyler; Chad (Susan) Russell and their children Jessika and Jade of Oklahoma City, OK. U.S.A.; Warren (Marie) Russell and their son Scott; one brother Bruce (Lorraine) Highsaw of Mankota, SK; three brothers-in-law Willard (Velma) Knippelberg, Robert (Mary) and Harold (Gladys) Knippelberg and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jacob Knippelberg in 2004; daughter Kathy Russell in 2005; son-in-law Cameron Hunter in 2006; sisters Eva (Henry) Kohl and Shirley (Edward) Schultz; mother and father Rose and William Highsaw; four brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law and three nephews. Marie will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all her family and friends.
