It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Johnny Allison, age 66, of Glace Bay. Johnny passed away at his residence in Dominion on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011.
Born in Glace Bay (Hub), he was the son of the late Frank and Margaret (Gillis) Allison.
John was employed with Devco as a coal miner, retiring after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Hub AAC. He was an avid dart player, bowled in various leagues, loved to fish and garden. Johnny enjoyed bird watching, air shows and spending time with family.
He will be sadly missed by his loving companion, Elizabeth ‘Betsy’; Betsy’s children, Lori and Jack; brothers, George (Joan), James ‘Panda’ (Connie); sisters, Myrtle (Rollie) Pemberton, Louise (James) MacDonald and Judy (Mike) McRae. Also surviving are cherished grandchildren, Brian, Daylan, Kagan, Lou, Kohl, Jessica, Kirsten; aunts, uncle and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Johnny was predeceased by a sister, Edith Irene, in infancy.
Visitation for Johnny will be held Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, 4-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. John's Church, New Aberdeen with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Cremation will follow with interment in the parish cemetery at a later date.
