Kathy passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice House after a brave battle with cancer.
She is survived by her loving husband Brian, her two children Kristina and Jason, her sister Kelly and her mother Maureen. In addition to her two children, she was a proud grandmother to Jonathan, Sebastian and Max.
She was predeceased by her father Bill.
Kathy was born and raised in Vancouver, BC and had lived in Kamloops for the past 25 years.
She attended West Vancouver Secondary School where she first met her husband of 41 years, Brian. They both attended the University of British Columbia, where Kathy earned her Bachelor of Education. She went on to complete a Master's in Education from Simon Fraser University.
Kathy's career as an educator spanned over 35 years, beginning at her old high school West Vancouver Secondary. She spent 25 years at Thompson Rivers University, most notably in the area of university preparation and adult education. She held numerous positions, culminating in her position as Dean of Student Development. She won the universal respect and admiration of both her colleagues and her students.
Kathy was loyal, supportive and generous; she made people around her better for having known her.
An avid, talented quilter and an enthusiastic golfer, Kathy was also a world traveller. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and her large circle of friends, both at Thompson Rivers University and in the community at large.
A Memorial Service will be held on September 24, 2011 in the Panorama Room in the International Building on the Thompson Rivers University campus starting at 3:00 p.m. A reception will be held on location following the service.
